I fell in love with how the daylight bathed the hallway in a beautiful glow and eventually I started photographing the house I live in. It is an Altbau in Prenzlauer Berg, Berlin. In the GDR people called my street “the Ku’damm of the East”. It was a special one – still beautiful today, but heavily gentrified. My house is the last one on it that has not yet been completely modernized. But I suppose it will only be a matter of time.
Keyenberg (alt), 2023/24
The photographs in this project tell of resettlement, loss, protest and hope in precisely observed detail. Very few of the historic town‘s 1500 inhabitants, roughly 10 percent, remain in Keyenberg. One only comes across them when dwelling there for longer. It otherwise resembles a ghost town. A town, which ultimately managed to fight for its survival despite being threatened by open-cast brown coal mining for decades and is waiting to reinvent itself.
